(Bonnie Pipin, $530; Sora, $472.50)
I headed out to Vegas for the fashion trade shows a couple of weeks ago, and while the trip as a whole was quite disastrous (because of a complete highway shut down, it took me eight hours to get back to Los Angeles), I did find a couple of brands that I really liked. One of them is Old Gringo, who, surprisingly enough, specializes in cowboy boots. While I think that some people can pull those off amazingly, I’ve never dared to own a pair. But all that changed… (My big turn around and more styles after the jump). Read More

(Love the Upstate scarf and the perfect tee from In Residence’s in-house label)
It’s a bit slim pickings in regards to sales this week. It seems like everyone needs a breather after Fashion’s Night Out. However, In Residence‘s sale is still going strong. Here’s the deal: First, grab something at full price. That shouldn’t be difficult! Personal favorites are the navy heritage weekender from their in-house label, Loren Stewart‘s minimalist rings and studs, and Falling Whistles‘ tee shirts for a good cause. And after you find your score, get any sales item for an additional 50% off. Head to our Sales Calendar for details!

Although the days are still scorching hot here, we are all in the mood for fall. This season, we’re looking towards injecting a more sinister yet sexy vibe into our wardrobe. Let’s tap into our dark side with sultry dresses and goth-inspired accessories. With lace, sequin, and feathers, the style is still playful while invoking a chic and mysterious vibe. This is not the goth girl we’ve known from the past. Let designers Valerj Pobega, Ksubi, Odilon, and others dress you in a darkly romantic fashion. (Take a walk on the dark side, after the jump.)

We love the American Cinematheque. Not only do they screen movies you can’t catch anywhere else, they also have great 4-hour workshops about filmmaking as well as A-list talent for their Q&A’s. On Wednesday, September 7, at 7:30, at their Aero Theater (1328 Montana Ave in Santa Monica), the theater will screen Henry Jaglom‘s cult classic Eating: A Very Serious Comedy About Women and Food. Three women, three big birthdays, one big party – the perfect setting for guests to chat about body image and eating obsessions. And we’re giving away a pair of tickets! (The trailer and how to win after the jump). Read More

(It’s modern and inviting!)
A friend of mine has been raving about Larry’s (24 Windward Ave., Venice, CA 90291), and so I was more than happy to meet up with him there the other night. First off, the place has excellent DNA: Waterloo & City‘s chef Brendan Collins with partner Carolos Tomazos and Hotel Erwin‘s Mark and Erwin Sokol teamed up to open this space. (Both establishments are on the top of my list in regards to eats and drinks.) This endeavor focuses heavily on draft beer and down-to-earth food with all dishes under $15. By the way, Larry’s is named after famed Venice artist Larry Bell. (The specs on the beer and the food after the jump.) Read More
(A fraction of the designs to be found at the DIVA Group)
One of our favorite stores on the Westside, In Residence, is having a spectacular sale. Dig through items from such labels as Haden NY, Falling Whistles, JPark, and Popomono. And for those of us in love with Italian design: the DIVA Group sale is about to end on August 31. This is the perfect time to find that little something from Alessi, Kartell, Cassina, B&B Italia, Maxalto, or Flos. Head to our Sales Calendar for details.
