I met Cathy of Gastronomy Blog back in April at an event at The Grill on the Alley. She has this amazing positive personality, and is inquisitive, passionate and very knowledgeable about food. I didn’t know her blog at the time, but having met her, I was sure to check it out as soon as I got home. Like the person behind it, the blog immediately drew me in with its bright orange design, lovely photos and personal tales of food and travel. She’s ventured extensively stateside and abroad, and I can’t wait to see where she ventures next… (An impressive proposal and more from the blog after the jump.)
(The French Laundry engagement dinner: “Tartare” of Japanese Bluefin Tuna, right, and Sweet Butter-Poached Maine Lobster Tail, below.)
The dropline of the blog was “My boyfriend likes Astronomy. I prefer Gastronomy.” until the two recently got hitched! Now it reads “My husband likes Astronomy. I prefer Gastronomy,” and the Astronomer has a definite role online as the Gastronomer’s cohort.
And, before we go any further, we must take a moment to give it up for the Astronomer, who proposed to the Gastronomer with a “huge and bloodless” diamond ring in one hand, and “a confirmation for dinner at The French Laundry” in the other. Well played, Astronomer, well played…

I’ve also been thoroughly enjoying the couple’s honeymoon journey through Spain. Along with The French Laundry, the Ell Cellar de Can Roca in Girona, Spain is on the Gastronomer’s list of “Meals of a Lifetime.”
I actually love how she’s indexed so many categories—along with Meals of a Lifetime, you’ll find Best Recipes, Best Street Food, Best U.S. Eats, Best World Eats, Eat by Cuisine, Mad for Bánh Mì, Mad for Cupcakes, and more.

(One of many recipes—Maple Bacon Biscuits)
And lest you think this is all about fancy schmancy dining, it isn’t. Bring on the street food and casual dining! Bring on the cupcakes in bounty! Home cooking, too. You can tell with each and every post that there’s a great deal of care in crafting its content and presentation, whether it’s about hot dogs or airplane food or a perfectly muddled cocktail. Now, I must eat.
