We get bummer news from Squid Ink that Kiss My Bundt will be closing its 8104 West 3rd Street location this month. Owner Chrysta Wilson writes on her blog: “I’ve made the decision to relocate and restructure the Bakery and Baking Academy so that it makes more economic sense (and cents).” There will be a Southern Summer Soiree this Sunday, August 15 from 4:30pm-10pm ($15, tickets here), featuring bundt tasting and sponsored by Seagram’s Sweet Tea Vodka. After that, Wilson says she’ll “begin phasing out” of the current location and “completing our transition by the end of August.” We’ll be curious where Wilson lands… (Magnolia opens, pizza to Robertson and West 3rd, Breadbar’s next pop-up, Rama Thai progress after the jump.)
After a two-week hiatus due to Department of Health construction and design issues, The Feast reports that Magnolia Bakery at 8389 West 3rd Street is now open again.
As you can see above, Sushi Roku is currently closed, re-opening this fall—the word is October 1—for “Version 2.0.” Per Eater LA, “The revamp includes ‘extensive’ interior and exterior design changes, and the addition of a new bar and lounge.”
From Grubstreet LA, we hear that Pizzeria Il Fico is moving into Michel Richard‘s former space at 310 South Robertson Boulevard, slated for a fall opening. The pizza place’s website confirms the location.
And on the heels of delicious ramen, Breadbar‘s next pop-up will be Soba Pop, a soba shop. Eater LA has the deets on the one-week event, from August 23-28, 5pm-10pm, at the 8718 West 3rd Street restaurant, which will transform “into an artisanal noodle bar hosted by local cookbook author and soba maker Sonoko Sakai and Akila Inouye. Guests have the option to choose from two six-course ‘Lean’ and ‘Long’ prix-fixe menus ($38/58) plus a bevy of à la carte dishes.” With promising options such as Cold Duck Bukkake Soba and Hot Toro Toro Pork Soba, you can count me in.
I’ve been wondering what was going on with Olio Pizzeria & Cafe, which is heading to 8075 West 3rd Street at Crescent Heights, and looks like we’re going to have an opportunity for a free taste. Ethel Boutique brings news that during the West 3rd Street Summer Sidewalk Sale this Saturday and Sunday, August 14 and 15, Olio will be setting up its wood fired mobile ovens starting at 10am both days in front of the new location. Ethel also refers to an October opening for the pizzeria.
And, there’s been some progress at Rama, a Thai restaurant taking the former Celadon space (notably, part of the Celadon Restaurant Group) at 7910 West 3rd Street, near Fairfax. Check the Buddha mural at the front door, and the developing interior with Buddha sculpture.
