B+S Eats – Oaxaca Shrimp and Ginger-y Margarita at Malo

by tasha

I don’t remember the last time I went to Malo (4326 West Sunset Boulevard), which gave the husband and I ample reason to hit the Silver Lake spot with our 30% off via BlackboardEats. We sat upstairs for the first time, which was great—out of the fray and much quieter. I ordered the Oaxaca Shrimp ($12) that comes with plenty of sautéed shrimp in a pool of pasilla chile, chipotle and cream, which I happily sopped up with flour tortillas… (The meal after the jump.)

(Loved this Medicina Latina margarita, $13, with 4 Copas Reposado Tequila, agave nectar, lime juice, and fresh ginger.)

(Chips, $4, guacamole, $4, and the hottest salsa Malo offers, Burnt Habanero and Cream.)

(The husband ordered the Res en Mole de Pasilla Negra, $12, braised beef in dark mole.)

(Spanish Rice, $2.50)

Along with the shrimp, I was also thoroughly pleased with my ginger-y Medicina Latina margarita ($13) . My challenge at Malo is remembering 1) not to stuff myself with warm chips and salsa, and 2) that everything is a la carte, so cost can sneak up on you. And while the food is incredibly reasonable, the drinks are what add up quickly. This was a well-priced meal, especially wit the 30% discount, but the trick to staying not-pricey at Malo is only ordering one cocktail. Let that be challenge 3) ordering one cocktail. Once again, cheers to BlackboardEats!
