Shops – Weltenbuerger Gives New Shape to Los Feliz

by tasha

I’ve been meaning to get to new-ish boutique Weltenbueger at 4634 Hollywood Boulevard (the former Apartment 3 space) in Los Feliz  ever since owner Bryan Sanderson sent me a really charming note about the opening. Sanderson is German, and very informed by Berlin fashion, which has fueled his interest in plays on proportion and shape. The shop—currently filled with intriguing vintage finds for men and women—is reflective of this with oversized tees, tops, sweaters, dresses, blazers and more, many of which have been altered, giving pieces a new, fashion-forward life… (The merch and more about the shop after the jump.)

(Oversized dresses Sanderson has altered for blouse-y affect; I hope he continues to offer these because I want one!)

(Shop kitty Nick won me over.)

You’ll find much geometric, ’80s, and ethnic inspiration here, but nothing that is too “on the nose.” Many pieces are $20-$25. Sanderson explains, “I think vintage is fashion too, not just reminiscent, but should be used to mix with other pieces.” He’s been getting good traffic and making significant sales to foreign customers, from Japan and Europe, in particular. In addition to vintage, he’ll be offering selections from German brand Julia & Ben. “I’d also like to carry some progressive U.S. designers,” he says.

The space itself is also appealing—cleanly designed with geometric structures Sanderson built himself to display merchandise. He also created the “Weltenbuerger” signage on the exterior, and was working on a very cool table made from discarded steps while I was there. I’m really looking forward to returning to do some trying-on and likely make a few purchases. (More photos on next page.)
