I met Brenna Egan (shown top left) at LA Fashion Week sometime ago, always dressed, if you know what I mean, a total standout from the crowd in a high/low-vintage/new mix of clothing and accessories that just made sense. A former Vogue fashion assistant, she was then the West Coast fashion editor at OK! , and I would see her from time to time at events and tried to snap a photo when I got the chance. So, it was with much excitement that I received news that she has just launched a vintage online boutique Chic & You Shall Find, which is so much more than just ecommerce…. (The chic finds this way, and more about the site after the jump.)
Of course, Egan puts her discerning eye toward curating an excellent selection of on-trend pieces (clothing, accessories, and even cool items for the home), as well as always necessary basics. But she also offers up an entertaining shopping experience through her creative and editorial lens through “Webitorials” (fashion shoots), the “Past Life” she gives each piece (above right, for instance, in the Paisley Daze dress: “Simone tended to walk on the wild side of life. With a flask in her purse and a gleam in her eye, she lit the 70s nightlife on fire”), and the site’s accompanying blog.
As for the merch, you’ll find tons in the $50-$100 range (with some less and some more). In fact, Egan says she refuses to have high prices: “We are so lucky here to have access to cheap amazing finds that I really try to be fair with my ‘finder’s fee’ and cost of styling/lighting/hosting/photographing. There is no need for greed when we’re in a borderline depression, ya know?”
In addition, there’s a “Posh Pawnshop,” in which you can send in images of items you’d like to sell via Chic & You Shall Find, and upon approval ship them to the site’s headquarters, where they will be professionally photographed, uploaded and put up for resale. When sold, you receive the agreed upon value minus a resale fee.
The concept for Chic & You Shall Find came to Egan after going on a meditation/yoga retreat, “in the midst of trying to figure out my life after the disheartening editorial downsizing last year,” she explains. “The idea sort of hit me a week later after a solo trip to the flea market on my 27th birthday.” Eight months later, we get the benefits of Egan’s joy at finding “a YSL safari collection blazer for $8 in the Mojave desert.” And, to her, we say thank you.
