By chance, the husband and I were walking past Plancha: A Taco Joint Saturday night around 9pm-ish and saw that people were inside eating. Owner Peter White, whom I spoke to last week, was outside and said it was friends-and-family night and to go on in for a sampling. We happily obliged… (About the food and images after the jump.)
(Braised beef taquito with salsa verde)
(Spicy grilled tiger prawns)
(Soup with shredded beef)
Waiting to be scooped up and hot off the grill was grilled tilapia butter lettuce tacos (no tortilla with these) with guacamole, onion, cilantro and chipotle cream sauce; braised beef taquitos with salsa verde; spicy BBQ-grilled tiger prawns with chipotle cream sauce; and a fiery red soup with shredded beef.
Everything tasted fresh and had a nice kick to it. While the husband said he definitely prefers a taco with a tortilla (that’s available on the menu, too), I liked that there’s a no-tortilla option. In fact, the fish taco was my favorite sample (though I’m not saying it wouldn’t have been even better with a tortilla). The husband’s favorite was the spicy grilled shrimp, and, yes, Plancha has something with the chipotle cream sauce, a nice complement. The salsa verde made the taquito for me. I only had a small taste of the soup, but would like to try it again; there seemed to be quite a bit of depth to it. Also of note was the guacamole, which had that little bit of saltiness that I like.
As I mentioned before, the prices are right at three tacos for $5, fish tacos for $2.95 each, $6.49 burritos, etc. You can really control portions here, which I appreciate as well. I think Placha: A Taco Joint (located across the street from a marijuana dispensary no less) has a bright future.

Great. We stopped by there a bit earlier and they weren’t handing out food yet but asked us to come back later. However we stuffed ourselves at Tasca and skipped it. I look forward to it.
