Fashion Rules! reports from its Melrose Place offices that UK handbag and accessories label Mulberry has emptied its shop at 8407 Melrose Place: “There is no merch on the shelves, and the store seems empty. What a pity.”
The blog points to rising prices as an issue for the brand: “they made chic leather bags that had a cool plain style about them – and they were less expensive than lots of designer bags…Then the prices went up, and the plain look went away – but Mulberry had a hard time when it ascended into the price range of Givenchy, Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu.”
The Mulberry NYC outpost confirms that the Melrose Place location is closed. I can say whenever I browsed the boutique, I was usually the only one there. Melrose Place is a quiet street, upscale and private, yes, but to a fault for shops that could really use some foot traffic.
