About

Meet Mondette, here to transform this sprawl of a city into your little world. You may already follow Mondette’s little sib Blackburn + Sweetzer, that neighborhood style blog that’s covered Los Angeles’s West 3rd Street area since 2007, scouting out what’s new in retail and fashion, food and restaurant, real estate, beauty, trends, sales and more.

You’ll now find B+S on Mondette, as well as the addition of Rosewood + Martel, which expands the blog’s hyper-local coverage; while B+S encompasses West 3rd Street to Melrose Avenue, Robertson Boulevard to La Brea Avenue, R+M covers Beverly to Santa Monica Boulevards, Fairfax Avenue to Larchmont Boulevard.

We do venture outside these geographic bounds when editorially appropriate, but our primary focus is the neighborhood and bolstering a hyper-local lifestyle, where denizens walk-shop-eat-enjoy what’s just down the way simply by knowing it’s there.

Of course, Mondette isn’t just for those in the neighborhood; it’s also a fantastic resource for anyone interested in these very urban, ever-changing, and much adored slices of the city.

Tasha Nita Adams
founder/CEO

After a stint in production at NBC Network News in Washington, DC, Tasha Nita Adams moved to Los Angeles and cut her teeth in print journalism as a Senior Editor covering lifestyle at magazines Angeleno and Movieline. Online, she created all content for Variety’s The Stylephile, then moved on to become Associate Retail and Events Editor, West Coast for fashion forecasting company Worth Global Style Network. From there, she launched and was the Editor of retail and fashion blog Racked LA. It was in 2007 while writing for The Stylephile that she created and launched neighborhood style blog Blackburn+Sweetzer. Based on the blog’s continued growth, she’s teamed up with colleagues Lilliam Rivera and Christina von Messling to form Mondette, an expansion in both geographical and editorial scope.

Adams has a BA from Stanford University and an MFA in creative writing from University of Arizona. She’s also worked as a freelance journalist for publications such as Los Angeles Magazine, Variety, WWD, DailyCandy, UrbanDaddy, Thrillist, US Weekly, Tu Ciudad, Everyday with Rachael Ray, and others, as well as created marketing and PR copy for retail/fashion, architecture and food.

Lilliam Rivera
editorial director/VP

Native New Yorker Lilliam Rivera began her editorial career fifteen years ago as part of the team that launched the first bilingual woman’s lifestyle magazine and its online component, Latina. She moved to Los Angeles with a staff position at Eonline.com, creating a fashion department, contributing to the launch of Stylenetwork.com and collaborating with the marketing team to launch user engagement online packages (advertorials, micro-sites, sweepstakes). She followed with a stint as West Coast Fashion Editor for In Touch Weekly, covering celebrity fashion and New York and Los Angeles fashion weeks. As Modern Luxury Media’s Online Editor-in-Chief, Rivera managed the launch and maintenance of their website plus 10-local weekly newsletters.

Rivera has extensive experience in new media, editorial strategy, audience development and offline/online convergence (print, TV, marketing). Her writing has appeared in California Apparel News, Variety, Women’s Wear Daily, Eonline.com, and among others.

Christina von Messling
creative director/VP

A European transplant, Christina von Messling received a master of laws in Germany, then promptly embarked to the U.S. to work as a freelance photographer. Besides her many corporate clients, von Messling now shoots for a wide variety of national and international publications (Vogue Italia, British Vogue, Brigitte, Bunte, German GQ, Woman, Yen, Flaunt, LA Confidential, Hint, among others). Her work as a regular fashion and portrait photographer at Racked.com connected her with Tasha Nita Adams where she also worked as a writer. She continued to collaborate both visually and editorially with Adams on Blackburn+Sweetzer.

Her visual point of view is strongly influenced by her “old world” roots but her life in Southern California has added a modern element to her work. There’s a flexibility and well roundedness that enables her to quickly grasp the visual aspects of any project she’s involved in. Over the years, she’s branched out of her core field of fashion and portraiture with product, travel and landscape photography.
