Meet Mondette. What started out as a neighborhood style blog in 2007 continues to grow – first expanding to more and more neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles – and now in its current incarnation, an online space in which we do our best to bring you lifestyle content you can’t find anywhere else. Our focus is still on our beloved city, but we venture out when editorially appropriate (an LA designer shows at New York fashion week perhaps, or we travel to, say, Paris par exemple).
Mondette is a fluid venture, which ebbs and flows organically. That neighborhood style blog – blackburnandsweetzer.com – created by founder Tasha Nita Adams began as a labor of love to dip her toe into the blog world after completing her graduate degree in creative writing, and having started her journalism career in print.
A couple years later, Adams teamed up with writer and editor Lilliam Rivera and fashion photographer Christina von Messling to expand the blog’s geographical and editorial scope, culminating in a quartet of neighborhood lifestyle blogs.
Now Adams and Rivera find themselves yearning for their original print journalism roots, stepping away from the frenetic blog pace, and searching for the stories of the city they want to tell with nearly three decades of experience combined as denizens and writers in the city. It’s slower, but, as we see it, much more lovely.
Tasha Nita Adams
Tasha Nita Adams cut her teeth in print journalism as a Senior Editor covering lifestyle at magazines Angeleno and Movieline. Online, she created all content for Variety’s The Stylephile, then moved on to become Associate Retail and Events Editor, West Coast for fashion forecasting company Worth Global Style Network. From there, she launched and was the Editor of retail and fashion blog Racked LA.
Adams has a BA from Stanford University and an MFA in creative writing from University of Arizona. She’s also worked as a freelance journalist for publications such as Los Angeles Magazine, Variety, WWD, DailyCandy, UrbanDaddy, Thrillist, US Weekly, Tu Ciudad, Everyday with Rachael Ray, and others, as well as created marketing and PR copy for retail/fashion, architecture and food.
She lives in LA with her husband Nick and daughter Paloma.
Native New Yorker Lilliam Rivera began her editorial career as part of the team that launched the first bilingual woman’s lifestyle magazine and its online component, Latina Magazine. She moved to Los Angeles with a staff position at Eonline.com, contributing to the launch of Stylenetwork.com, and collaborating with the marketing team to launch user engagement online packages. She followed with a stint as West Coast Fashion Editor for In Touch Weekly, and Modern Luxury Media’s Online Editor-in-Chief.
Rivera’s writing has appeared in California Apparel News, Variety, Women’s Wear Daily, and Eonline.com, among others. When she’s not out and about discovering her neighborhood, she’s home writing young adult novels.
She lives in Los Angeles with her husband David and their two daughters Isabelle and Sophia.
