Neutrals never go out of style, but sometimes one of these classic hues is getting more than average attention from the global design community. And so it happened that for Spring 2011 the non-color white has been a focal point in a significant part of the collections, and especially in the form of the white dress. First and foremost the white dress comes to mind when thinking of anything bridal related, but such classic beauties as Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, and, of course, La Monroe have been showing us for decades that this is a staple that every woman should have in her wardrobe. (See the best shapes and how to accessories after the jump).
My favorite style of the trend is either the simple and relaxed, or the bohemian take. But there are so many others: look at Dolce & GabbanaFendi for lacy vintage numbers, for feminine chic, and Akris for futuristic minimalism.
The white dress is the perfect backdrop for bold accessories (in the shows bright colored shoes were a favorite), but I also like the thought of combining with beige or browns for an understated look. Also: the smokey eye in colorful hues is a spring trend, which can be taken over the top for nighttime, or pulled back to a simple eyeliner for daytime. Not the make-up type? There’s always the option to pick a bright shade for you nailpolish, neon colors are another big trend this season.
(Look from Nina Ricci Spring 2011. Pick one of these Mac shades for a bright smokey eye, $14.50, from top left counterclockwise the shades are Humid, Aquadisiac, Passionate. Or opt for a colored nailcolor, I liked this toned down shade of blue, City Gris, $21, by Dior)
