Events – Rodarte Sisters Make an Appearance at Mona Moore

(From Rodarte’s spring collection)

I had a mental image of lines around the block of die-hard Rodarte fans trying to get a peek at their idols, so I was sure to show up promptly to progressive shoe boutique Mona Moore, where the designers of the fashion brand, Kate and Laura Mulleavy, were making an appearance.  I was relieved to find an intimate group of people chilling and chatting inside, and almost overlooked the sisters at first sight—there they were in the middle of the room, dressed casually in jeans and cardigans. I decided to first take a closer look at the creations of these two geniuses, and, as expected, was more than impressed by the vision and intricacy of handiwork of the pieces on display… (Shoes, shoes and more shoes after the jump.)

(Isn’t this heel incredible? Also from the fall collection)

The amount of detail and three dimensionality of the shoes is really stunning, and of course something that gets easily lost in a picture, so it was a treat to really have the time to inspect these masterpieces up close and with a lot of care. While the spring collection pieces were very heavy on the metal, donning spikes and embodying the end-time theme of that collection, the fall pieces were much more feminine and colorful. The detail that fascinated me most were the heels, reminiscent of melting wax. Incredible!

I was lucky enough to actually chat for a little bit with Kate, who was very low-key and approachable. Since the two of them are born and bred Angelino’s, I was curious about her favorite spots in the city: “Raymond in Pasadena is my favorite restaurant, and then I love Caravan Bookstore in downtown.”
