Last Saturday, mid-U.S./England World Cup game (alright, you see where my priorities are), I hopped down to Picfair Village to check out the LA Vintage Exchange (LAVE) shopping party—a trove of reasonably-price finds from the Midwest and beyond—hosted by Refinery29 and located at LAVE-helmer Courtney Lowe‘s sweetly decorated garage-turned-studio space at 1424 Carmona Avenue… (More of the merch, your next shopping party, stylists, and more after the jump.)
Refinery29′s LA editor Kate Mulling had hand-picked a rack of her faves, including a covetable black cape (shown top left), a tweedy green Yves Saint Laurent blazer with great button detail (shown top right), and some nice leather pieces. Lowe is also a hand-dye whiz, and I loved her treatment on vintage boy-style button-downs and loose cardigans (shown bottom left), dresses, and more.
(The LAVE studio displays Lowe’s inspiration.)
Lowe opens her studio by appointment, and she also works with stylists and costumers. She says her merch is “priced-to-move” and it is—while you will find designers selections from YSL, Burberry and more for $200 and up, many of her offerings are under $50. I scored a crochet cardi in pristine condition for $14! And, to add to the fun, you can set up a shopping party at the studio with friends, with a little vino and treats to accompany. Be sure to check out the LAVE Etsy shop as well.
